| - I must start by saying that I don't go out to the movies much these days. While this is partly because many popular movies don't appeal to me enough to pay $12+ to see, it is also partly because most of the big newer cinemas are all noise and advertising and video games. When I do go out, it is often to one of the smaller or older theatres. The one recent exception has been the Cineplex Odeon Morningside, where I find it is a little more subdued even on Tuesday evenings. It also has one of the lowest ticket pricings in Toronto, probably because it Is pretty far out-of-the-way. Fortunately, I live and work in Scarborough, so it is not too far to travel even by TTC. Additionally, it has the nostalgia bonus of being located across the street from where I lived briefly in the 80s before the plaza was even built.
I have been there a few times over the last year, always on their cheap Tuesdays for $6.50 ($9.50 for 3D). I believe the regular daily price is also $9.50, which is about as low as it gets these days. The cinemas themselves are fine; all have good comfortable seating, large screens and digital sound, and they show the same popular movies as elsewhere. I recently watched Star Wars Rogue One in 3D, and last year Star Wars The Force Awakens, and have no complaints about quality compared to other theatres. The only things missing were the noise and crowds of teenagers. I do not recall buying anything from the concessions, but I think the pricing and quality is pretty standard across all Cineplexes.
While it may not have the same coziness and atmosphere of those old theatres that I grew up with, I think that it does as good a job as I can expect for a decent price, and will probably be back whenever I have a new movie to see that is playing there.
