| - I have bookmarked this joint a while back and finally managed to swing by today. I was heading toward Spring Mountain through the south off ramp from the I-15 flyway to get my pho sesh when I realized that Rollin' Smoke was right off Highland Drive. I don't know about y'all, but there is only one thing I do in this industrial area at involves poles and minimal clothing, so yeah....great place to put a BBQ establishment!
I decided to go with something not too heavy, not knowing that a light meal here is equivalent to a light meal in Hawaii...no such things as smeediums here. The sandwiches offer a check in discount to include some dessert as well. I ended up saving mine after being more than satisfied following my meal.
I opted for the Outlaw, for those that know, you know. It comes with a brisket burger, deep fried onion crisps, there very own BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese on a lightly toasted bun and topped with some pickles and peppers. Additionally, I made it a meal and added fried okra on the side.
The meal came out rather quickly, considering that there were other patrons that were there before me, but have not yet gotten their dishes...and when their dishes did come out, it wasn't anything huge or extravagant. So note to self, burgers and sandwiches come with the quickness.
However, there is something about burgers that in now way humanly possible can fit into anyone's mouth, no matter how much you smash it down by hand. I had to cut the bad boy into 4's in order to get it down without getting cited for indecency. Kinda like getting a salad from a place that serves it on the smallest petrie dish ever constructed...I never seemed to ever get the logic in that. But seriously, I'd rather complain about my meal being way over sized versus being a meal for an action figure.
One thing I noticed though, they do not ask how you would like your burger, meaning that it comes standard as what looked to be medium rare plus, but not quite well. It was moist and flavorful, but started to toughen up towards the end when it cooled off. The Okra was on point and the BBQ is a nice compliment.
The decor is like most BBQ joints that is accustomed to getting thrashed following a nice serving, evidenced by the whole paper towel rolls at each table. There is no sense getting all done up if you are there to get dirty. Yet, there was three flat screens playing three different ESPN channels, always a good sign. The place appears to stick to it's Arkansas roots and has the Razorback Fight Song posted on the wall in the extended dining room.
What rubbed me the wrong way was that I dropped a few bucks in the tip bucket right in front of the waiter, and he did not even acknowledge it. That was disturbing since I actually clean up after myself pretty well. I almost felt like sticking my hand back in the bucket like I was fishing for catfish, but oh well, I may be making too big a deal about it.
I definitely want to come back to try the ribs and other offerings, so if its BBQ you want, this is the place to be.
