  • Ugh Roland's, I wanted to like you but unfortunately you stayed true to your two star rating. I'm not a Pittsburg native but came to visit for a weekend. We decided to visit the Strip district and wander around to find food. The first restaurant we tried to go to (Gaucho) had too long of a wait so we ended up at Roland's. Things started off strong... but boy, did it go downhill pretty quickly. The place looked pretty packed, which I figured was a good sign. There is outside seating both upstairs and downstairs which seemed nice. We were helped right away. In fact, while the hostess cleaned off our table, 3 other employees approached us to ask if we were being seated. Those aspects made Roland's seem promising. After we were seated, nobody came to greet us or take our order for about ten minutes. Ummmm what? Seemed strange after the staff was so attentive just moments before. We were finally able to flag down a waitress. Strike 1. My group ordered a couple apps including the sweet chili shrimp and Cajun shrimp. The food came out in a timely manner. We still didn't have silverware or plates by the time the food came out. Strike 2. The food itself was just meh. The sweet chili shrimp was good, better than the Cajun shrimp in my opinion. The Cajun strip was really basic. It didn't have much flavor to it. The mango salsa it came with was just ok (and trust me, that's tough for me to say since I'm such a lover of all things mango). I ordered the lobster mac and cheese from the appetizer section as my entree. Our entrees came our super quick... like before we could even finish our appys. This is a pet peeve of mine so I'll consider this strike 2.5. The lobster mac and cheese was edible but not that impressive. There were large chunks of lobster in it which was good. But it was just so watery.... it almost tasted soupy?! It needed to be a lot thicker in consistency. Also, the presentation really had me baffled. It was served in a bowl which was on a plate. There were pieces of arugula shoved under the bowl. The pieces were haphazardly sticking out which made the meal look quite strange tbh. My group spent a couple minutes hypothesizing why this may be... the best reason we could come up with was to keep the bowl from sliding around the plate. Very weird. Strike 3. You know what they say... three strikes and you're out. And Roland's is definitely out after my experience here. I'm sure there are much better options in the area, so I'd recommend eating elsewhere.
