| - The shuttle ride in from the airport to the Strip wasn't bad, although, since I was staying at the Wynn which was near the end (I hope) of their route, it took quite a long time to make it to the hotel -- perhaps a half hour, and given that they didn't leave until the shuttle filled at the airport, the whole shebang took almost an hour. Still, I wasn't in a hurry, so it was okay. It was the way back that was way beyond unacceptable. When I called to arrange it, I was given the option of a 12:30 or a 1:00 pick-up time for a 3 pm flight, so I chose 1 pm. No van by 1:10, so I called. The dispatcher said, "The traffic on Las Vegas Blvd is terrible, but there's someone at the Hilton who'll be able to pick you up in 3 or 4 minutes. They'll be driving directly to the airport from the Wynn." Still no van at 1:20, so I called again: "I'll call to see what's going on." She came back 4 minutes later to tell me that Shuttle 207 was closer, at Circus Circus. "It'll be there in 3 minutes." I asked if it would be driving directly the the airport, and she said she'd forgotten to ask, so disappeared again for 3 minutes and confirmed they'd be going direct. (The 3-4 minute thing must be the standard reply; if it had really been 3-4 minutes, the van would have arrived by the time she came back on the phone.) By 1:30, I was getting seriously nervous and called again (different dispatcher), and he said Shuttle 205 was nearer and would be coming in -- you guessed it --3-4 minutes and driving direct. By this time, I was negotiating for a taxi when the van pulled up at 133. Having prepaid for Executive, I decided to go with them, given the whole "direct to the airport" thing. I asked the driver who assured me he would "be at the airport immediately." He then drove direct to -- the airport? No, direct to Paris to pick up more passengers. I called Executive to say this was no way to run a business; the dispatcher got her supervisor who professed herself shocked that I'd even been given the option of a 1 pm pick-up. "We always allow 2 1/2 hours. There must have been a miscommunication. I'll have my supervisor (wait, I thought YOU were the supervisor) call you." I made it to the flight on time -- just barely, no thanks to Executive. The supervisor of the supervisor called me 2 days later to ask if I'd made my flight. (That's a chilling first question. It implies that, not infrequently, the answer to that question is "No.") "Well, since you made your flight, I'm authorized to give you a voucher for your next ride in to Las Vegas on Executive." Oh, I think not. Let's just skip that voucher since Executive is anything but executive class. . .
