  • The Shameful Tiki Room is a tiki style bar/lounge located in the heart of Parkdale. I went on a recent Friday evening to see what all the hype was about. First off, I can't comment on the authenticity because I haven't been to a real tiki bar but the place is definitely interesting and unique to the Toronto food and drink scene. We started off by ordering the drink the "Mystery Bowl" ($23 plus tax) which consisted of a mixture of juices, rums and secret spices. Every time you hear the gong being hit, it's because someone ordered a mystery bowl or volcano bowl and the staff chant which bowl is ordered and when someone orders a volcano bowl, the fog machine is used and fog is released. The "Mystery Bowl" was okay, not very strong and mostly filled with ice but definitely something interesting and fun to share with someone, it's recommended for two people. I also ordered a "Day of the Dead'" cocktail ($12 plus tax) which was comprised of 2.5 oz of different rums and a mixture of juices. A well made and strong drink which wasn't light on the alcohol. We also ordered some food specifically, the crab rangoon ($5 plus tax), garlic wings ($5 plus tax), the coconut shrimp ($7 plus tax) and two crisp cod tacos ($9.90 plus tax for two). Other than the crab rangoon, the rest of the food was disappointing, the fish was cold inside the tacos, the breaded coconut shrimp was hard on the outside and the wings weren't seasoned well and just slathered in sauce. The Shameful Tiki Room is a great place for a date with the fun decor and dim lights and also a cool place to hang out with friends for the night. I would recommend sticking with the different alcoholic beverages and not focusing on the food. It's a place that's definitely unique to Toronto and something to try out at least once.
