I was referred to them by my rheumatologist who can't prescribe medication anymore because of the opioid crisis. This crisis wasn't supposed to affect chronic pain patients, but that isn't true. We are being forgotten and dismissed by this new culture that doesn't want to, or know how to, deal with us.
I brought my films and reports from the physicians who have treated me in the past. This doctor touched a few joints on my body, 13 seconds, and rifled through my folder of notes for 22 seconds, and didn't even take my films out of their jackets, before he told me- he could do epidural injections, but not give any pain medications. In all he spent two minutes with me before dismissing me. This doctor who is supposed to be a pain specialist didn't know anything about me or my medical issues.
I've been properly taking opioids for 12 years, I brought all the information one would need to see I am a true chronic pain patient. I told him I had run out of medicine the day before, He told me he could give me a pill to ease withdrawal symptoms and that was it.
My rheumatologist hadn't sent my records over yet, but they knew that when I made the appt. I brought a whole file folder of xray and MRI film reports and doctors notes, but he didn't even look. This is the second pain clinic I've been to in my life and both experiences were the same. My orthopedic and rheumatologist both prescribed these medications for me safely for years, but these Pain centers just want everyone to get off them, and they don't care about you or your medical problems, even though their websites say they treat the medical problems I have.
There is something really wrong here when people in chronic debilitating pain are thrown aside, for doctor's saving their own asses and drug addicts. There should have been a plan put in place to deal with sick and injured people before the country went on a crusade to rid the world of opioids.
