  • Let me just get this out of the way: Bluebird, when it's good, is REALLY good. What sucks is, unlike my coworkers and everyone else here on Yelp, I have had more bad experiences with BBK than good. The first time I went there, I was giddily excited to try their vegetarian sandwich-of-the-month. It was some kind of tofu on ciabatta, and the menu boasted that it had some kind of funky sauce and lots of delicious pickled vegetables. What I got was a rock of bread with uncooked tofu and beets. Everything was served ice cold. It was gross. I also tried another veg-o-the-month sandwich a couple of years later. This time it was fried eggplant and some other stuff. Same deal - ice cold, served on rock hard bread, and tasteless. Then, one day recently, I happened upon this AMAZING potato kale and beet soup. It was one of the best soups I've ever had. I thought my luck with Bluebird was finally turning. Since then, I have stalked BBK on social media and at the store, looking for another delicious, amazing, vegetarian soup. They never have it. They have no soup, or they only have meat soup. Today, I went back to Bluebird to check on the soup situation. As I walked in the door, one of the counter workers stared at me with this look of disdain that can only be rivaled by my cat when I spray him with water. She stared, then went behind a pillar with another coworker while I looked at the soups. She came around the wall after a few seconds, and obnoxious giggling, to take my order. I got this miso egg drop soup that was marked gluten-free and dairy-free. I wondered if that meant it was also meat-free, but I didn't want to burden this poor girl with any more of my disgusting demands, so I left. It had chicken it. I gave it to my coworker, who said it was delicious. Yay. I wish Bluebird and I had a better relationship. I just don't know what I did to hurt it. But she has burned me, time and again, and it's just not worth all the pain to have one good experience every once in awhile.
