  • The very first time I walked into this place, I felt I'm at somewhere totally far away like Portland, OR or Berkeley..The surrounding neighborhood is a little rusty, old and at some point run-down, but once you're in front of Commonplace MWS, it's a different story.. It is the definition of a hidden gem. This Commonplace coffeeshop is a small chain opened in 2003 in Indiana, PA. The have 4 branches in Pittsburgh. I have been to 3 of them and this Mexican Wars branch is by far the best one. Staff are friendly and pleasant here. The coffeeshop design and people style are hippie/hipster/neohippie/BobDylanish.. What makes it an awesome experience for this fella is not only the venue; it's the commute to this branch. I bike from the Strip, crossing one of Pittsburgh yellow bridges, cycle along the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, enjoy amazing views of downtown Pittsburgh, Allegheny river, Pirates/Steelers stadiums.
