I was in the store today and I was not surprised by my experience as it is typical for all of the Sam Ash stores I have been in, scratch and dent at top dollar prices.
I went in the store to check out the selection and in particular look at a Gibson Firebird Zero. They had the guitar but the set up on it was poor. They did a set up on the guitar and while I waited I tried some other guitars.
The first guitar I tried was a severely damaged ES-335 studio. The guitar had what appeared to be major humidity damage. The price was steep, $1000 for a guitar with cracks on the top and bottom as well as a majorly cracked neck joint. Guitar Center sells these used for under $800 in great condition, this was beyond poor. It is obvious that this guitar should have been junked.
The next guitar I tried was a 2015 Les Paul less plus. This guitar was equipped with the Gibson E-Force tuner. Guitar Center was clearing these out for $1,099. Sam Ash wanted $1,399 used and with cosmetic and mechanical problems with the tuners. The first string tuner would not tune below the "e" note. I don't understand how asking above market prices for scratch and dent merchandise makes sense.
When the Firebird Zero was set up, the action was still poor. I do not blame the store for this, they did their best to fix a guitar in poor condition that should be sent back to the manufacturer as it is defective.
I would not go back. The prices were poor and the quality was lacking. Guitar Center is only a few miles away and the Las Vegas Guitar Center does a much nicer job of maintaining products and has much better prices.
