  • I was in love with this apartment at one time, but now my husband and I can't wait to leave. When we first moved in (in the middle of hot hot hot september), we had a few problems. Our air conditioner was broken. The front office said they would repair it the next day, but that first night after hauling sweaty cardboard boxes around was terrible. The carpet was not clean, and I'm not talking just stains. I think the previous tenant hardly vacuumed because the carpet was flattened down, matted, and very rough, as if it was walked on way too much and soaked with water and made it stiff. A poor carpet cleaning job perhaps? It felt like burlap. My vacuum could never fluff it up. Also upon move-in, there were still items left over from the previous tenant: razor blades, a bar of soap, and garbage bags under the bathroom sink. Makes me think that their cleaning crew is not too thorough. I tried to look past these little things because I'm not a very picky person, but the longer I live here, the more I can't wait to leave. The windows don't shut all of the way and our screen door on the balcony is always falling off the tracks. It is hard to sleep at night because the traffic noise is constant. Sports cars and motorcycles like to drag race down dobson rd at night. and I kid you not, at least every other night there is an ambulance of firetruck that pulls in, blaring sirens and all. Even with a floor fan running for noise, I could never sleep well. The Office staff is very rude and condescending. I'm the kind of person that tries to be nice to everyone but when I try to be that way to these people I feel walked over. Machaud is the worst one there. One time we left our 2nd floor patio open after leaving (it was beautiful weather) and they must have heard our dog crying. He cries for about 15 min then stops when we leave, according to our neighbor. Apparently someone complained because I got a call from Machaud saying that she is very upset about our dog and we have 10 days to make him stop barking or else we have to get rid of him. She also demanded to see that paperwork stating he was a service animal because "she lost it". I have him properly registered as an emotional support animal. When my husband went to re-give the documentation, she chewed him out saying that the dog barking was very unprofessional. But after speaking with her, we discovered she was knocking on our door for about half hour when we weren't home and that's what was making our dog bark in the first place. We also get multiple claims that our dog barks at certain times but we are home. It is the dog downstairs that they hear but they do not believe us. So in order to keep my dog, I have to shut him in our bathroom when I leave for work for fear that someone will complain and I will lose him. It makes me so sad. Also, we had a problem for months with our neighbors letting their dog poop and pee on the porch instead of taking it for a walk. It was a very large dog and I felt sorry for it never leaving the apartment. The owner was young and perfectly capable of walking her animal. In the summer heat the smell was terrible. I couldn't enjoy my patio because of the smell or leave my windows open. The office said they would take care if it but honestly the people never stopped. They just cleaned it up by rinsing it with water but it still smells. My husband changed the headlight in his car once, the whole process taking 30 min, and our neighbor who does nothing but smoke on his porch must have seen us and complained to the office because "he never gets to do anything to his car so why should we?". The office lectured us again once more. In a nutshell, I think we are over-paying for an old apartment. The office staff is harassing, nosy, and never seems to care about keeping their tenants. I cannot wait to move out. But we can't for another 6 months because, even though we found people to take over our lease, we aren't allowed to do that. No sub leasing so beware! Even with buying a house, no mercy here, guys. Don't live here. And yes there are scorpions and a lot of mosquitoes.
