  • I appreciate what they do but they need to do better health checks and fix health problems before putting them up for adoption. We adopted a 2 year old ragdoll cat, whom we absolutely adore. We took him to a veterinarian within a week, the exam was free because we adopted him from the SPCA. After a dental exam they determined that he needed a tooth pulled. This is going to cost between $500-$700. We adopted him for $40. In all, he could be a $740 cat, I could adopt a purebred kitten for that price.
