Let me start off by saying that our family LOVES REI. We've been members for years & have lived in 4 different states over the past few years where we've frequented REI on the West and East coasts of the USA. Never once have we had a negative experience at REI until today. We were visiting friends in Phoenix when we decided to visit this local REI. We came in to return 2 day packs that were lightly used. The reason for the return was because the packs were smaller than we needed and we wanted to upgrade to larger volume packs. Legitimate reason for a return under their excellent return policy, right? Well, we had the misfortune of getting Sydney at customer service, who was incredibly condescending and rude. Then, this same sales person actually had the nerve to accuse us of returning these packs because we wanted a discount when we were checking out at the register with larger liter packs, ignorantly assuming that we were trying to buy the exact same packs all over again which was not only false but a stab at our character. This sales person was completely unapologetic and the absolute worst representative of REI, a company we love and will continue to frequent despite this terrible experience at the Pleasant Valley location. I would not recommend this REI location if you are just passing through Phoenix like we were.
