I've been a member of a Coop since adulthood (long time...) and have been a member of Food Coops in Seattle, San Francisco, Ukiah, Eureka, Olympia, Portland.... I've been a member of this Coop for 9 year now and I've about had it. The Board management of this place is absolutely incompetent. A recent election was just botched to the point where they threw out votes. Why does this matter? It matters because they provide direction and governance to the management team. If the Board is bumbling about there is an impact on all operations. I have found this to be the case with the 10 year plus talk about a second location or major improvements to current location. The latter btw is impossible due to other tenant issues. So, MOVE. Instead years of inaction and lip service. Deliveries are tough and parking tougher. Considering that 90% of visits are by car this is a problem. Produce is often in poor condition or simply just not there. At my last visit a few weeks ago they were out of bottled spring water (common) and mac and cheese boxes...think about that...mac and cheese...water. Not watercress - water. So, I am keep my membership out of principle, but my consumer dollars will be going elsewhere and hoping for change. With that said, after a decade of waiting....I think it's time to have an amicable separation. Consider my $100 membership alimony.
