  • UPDATE: I used Persis Biryani Indian Grill for catering my HOA's couples dinner. We had set the catering for 60 people. The short version is: food was great, and people really enjoyed it. The long version: They did some things at a 5 and two things at 2, overall a 4 rating. What they did well, food was cooked well and just as good as if you had ordered it as a single entree. This matters because catering larger quantities sometimes leads to quality problems. They provided take home containers for the leftovers and didn't hurry us out and throw food away. This was very thoughtful and much appreciated. They were helpful and professional the entire time they were with us and during our event. The price was very reasonable. It is easy to spend a great deal of money and have a great experience (also possible to spend a lot and have a poor experience), it is something even better to spend less and have an equally great experience. They labeled the dishes, not exactly but with varying degrees of specificity, this was a nice touch. What they did poorly, they showed up late. The restaurant is within 4 minutes of our venue. They showed up about 15 minutes late. The distance matters because that means they didn't leave until about 10 minutes after they should have arrived. The guests were already there. This is also partially my fault since I left them no tolerance window, if I had asked them to arrive with a 30 minute window then they would have been setup just in time for when the guests arrive. Still showing up later than requested and agreed upon is a poor performance. The spice levels, I had been very specific the level of spice I wanted in some dishes. I wanted to have some of the chicken dishes at baby mild, like water, as a food option for people who can't tolerate spicy food. One of the baby mild dishes came out at near medium spice level. Some of the dishes were considerably spicier but I had specified those. This is only a minor negative because the most popular dishes were the spicier dishes. I also respect that using natural spices isn't the same as using a chemical in a factory, they can't predict the exact potency of each chili. That being said some of the safe dishes cam across as a bit too spicy. Let me repeat: the food was delicious. Very few people had problems with the spiciness of the food, and at the end people swarmed like locusts to take the leftovers home. The owner is very nice. Very nice. I like the guy, I want to be his personal friend. All the staff were very friendly. I can't emphasize enough how likable all the people who work here are. It is really a great pleasure to plan and cater an event with someone who is very friendly. Not only is he friendly, he is intelligent. He gives great insight and recommendations. His food estimates as to volume were spot on. I will definitely use this catering in the future. I think if you give this a chance you will thank me, of the many restaurants I contacted this was the most responsive one with the clearest explanations and answers. Original review: Some variety for a very good price. I mainly like this place because my brother jumps at any chance to get lunch with me at this place. The company makes it worthwhile. They have less vegetables in the tandoori chicken than I would like (I really like the onions and peppers). The shining star for this place is that they change up the buffet. They keep staples like butter chicken on there as well as biryani (it is the Biryani Indian Grill), but they rotate in some very exotic items each time I visit. I actually don't care for the biryani that much, even though it should be the signature dish. You don't see much goat or lamb, these are items I am looking for. Weekdays it is always chicken. You should really head out here on the weekends and pay the extra $2 for the meats. Addendum: the chana masala is excellent, the korma, rogan josh, and malabar are all superstars. I would argue that in Charlotte they have the best mango lassi have ever tasted. The flavor is potent but it isn't overly sweet. They have a very robust flavored raita, it is my absolute favorite. It may not be a great fit for everyone, but the last time I had it there were plenty of vegetables in it and a strong bite to it giving it a very full flavor.
