| - Thank GOD I read Yelp reviews on this place, or else I'd probably be in a bind right now.
So, I can be a fairly naïve person, and despite many of the negative reviews I decided to get a free trial at this gym as I live and work super close by. After checking it out a few times, I can say that the location is honestly the only good thing about this place.
Here's a few cons, from my perspective (most of which were already mentioned extensively in previous Yelp reviews... moral of the story: the reviews aren't lying!):
1. felt like I was at a used-car lot (pushy salesmen, who were incredibly shady and stretched the truth A LOT)
2. super crowded
3. limited equipment
4. overall dirty/dingy vibe
The main negative for me was definitely the employees I interacted with. It felt like they were constantly trying to pull a fast one (forceful about enrolling, super forceful about trying to sell personal training packages, dishonest about crowdedness, and in general incredibly condescending and shady). If I tell you I want to take 24 hours to look at my budget before committing to your overpriced PT packages, don't berate me for 5 minutes about why that's dumb. If I haven't signed up for a PT package, don't touch me and be an asshole to me during a trial session that I was coerced into attending (there's a difference between tough love and being a d*ck). If everything you have people sign is contractually binding, don't lie to my face and tell me otherwise as if I'm a moron. In general: have compassion!
I'm not one to complain about businesses like ever, but I seriously left yesterday wanting to cry. I have never been treated the way I was here, and I am so glad I will never have to go back.
Final tips:
1. Do not sign anything in the moment! They will make you feel like you have to, but you don't. Seriously, take whatever paperwork home with you and read the fine print/Yelp reviews first.
2. Do not give them your bank routing number! So freakin stupid. They seemed annoyed when I put down credit card info instead, but seriously, this alone could save you a ton of hassle if they continue charging you after you cancel/bill you incorrectly/etc.
3. If you think you're going in to check out the place casually, adjust your expectations.
