| - The Marquee as a venue is intimate and really an enjoyable place to see a concert.
With that said, I have never seen a security detail as poorly run as the one at the Marquee. I frequently attend concerts with my daughters and their friends, and have never had this bad of an experience with the line and admission process.
As did many, we arrived early - about 4 hours early - in order to be among the first to get in and get good spots. At about 6:30 pm, suddenly everyone rushed the doors, and it didn't matter if you got there 4 hours early or 4 days early; you were at the mercy of the crowd. There was one directive the whole time - a lame, "back up!" by one security guard who never followed through in organizing the crowd. As a result, for 30 minutes we were stuck in a crush of people so packed that I couldn't even look down at my feet. Luckily, but barely, we were able to stay together.
I have been to venues twice this size and some 50 times this size, and the security has never been this lackadaisical. I know there were some injured and sick from the mob, and there was no need for it. When the crowd is a bunch of teens, there need to be babysitters. They need to be at all points of the line, making sure that some order is maintained. I think that the Marquee would do well to find a way to hire more diligent security in the future.
