| - We moved across the country, and had paid our deposit and submitted our application prior to the move. While we are on the road, driving across country with all of our possessions and family, we get a phone call from Carino. They thought we were going to be a no-show, and if we didn't arrive soon they were going to move on to the next applicant and keep our deposit!!! We flew into a panic, told them AGAIN that we were en-route and would be there, and we were NOT going to be a no-show. Way to make us panic!!! We had nothing but problems with this company from day one. When we arrived at the house, we found it to be in poor condition. The carpeting was orange shag...30 years old or more. A majority of the windows in the home did not open at all. Worst of all, there was black mold in a kitchen cabinet. We stayed there for one year (our lease), and then moved to another home that was much newer and in better condition. They were very slow with contacting us back regarding repairs, and sometimes claimed that they had no record of our request. After our lease was up, they tried to hike the rent by $100 a month! We gave a 30 day written notice, and did our final inspection 9 days before our lease was up. Upon our move out, we completed the inspection with their representative. We received a perfect score-no problems were found. If they had issues, they could easily have told us and given us a chance to correct them. Instead, we were told that everything was great, the home was in great condition, and we could expect our refund in 14 business days. They made us wait the full 14 business days before they returned part of the deposit. They kept over $500 of our deposit, claiming that they had to patch the paint, clean some more, and treat for ants! They are dishonest, and I think what they did is illegal and criminal. How can you keep deposit money for problems that you didn't feel were problems during the inspection? How can you make us pay to paint the home? How can you charge us for cleaning when it was clean when we turned in the key???? This company are scammers, dishonest, and if I were you, I would avoid them at ALL costs!
