| - This is a review about Boarding - I boarded my dog Cooper here for a weekend and to be honest I was a nervous wreck about it. He's a 2.5 year old pitbull with a lot of energy. I kept wondering if I was doing the right thing, if he'd be okay, how he'd feel, if I did enough to make him comfortable. I'm that kind of Animal Parent. I even typed him up an "About Me" Letter for the vet techs. He had never spent a night away from his home or away from us before so I had no clue how he'd react.
Everybody that I encountered at UAH were all a breath of fresh air. I called them twice before his initial drop off asking the employees there any questions I could think of. They put me at ease about almost every question I had and were very calm and patient with me. I wanted my dog to feel like he was on vacation as much as possible while I was on mine.
I signed my dog up for Yappy Hour twice a day (Either a filled kong, or a doggy popsicle) and I also signed him up to have one on one play time with a vet tech twice a day. I really appreciated that the Techs go out there and play with your dog instead of just throwing your dog out into a playtime of freely playing dogs. I know some people prefer that kind of playtime for their fur babies, but given this was his first time I didn't want to expose him to too much to soon. And I don't know how other dogs respond or act so this also provided me with a lot of comfort.
I also signed my dog up to get a nail trim while there but it being his first time, I'm sure he was nervous and scared in a new environment. The staff at UAH graciously decided to not put my dog under too much stress his first time there, and skip the nail trim and give me a refund for it since I paid in advance. THANK YOU SO MUCH UNIVERSITY ANIMAL HOSPITAL FOR CONSIDERING MY DOGS FEELINGS AND DOING YOUR ABSOLUTE BEST TO MAKE HIM COMFORTABLE. Instead of trying to get as much money as you can from your clients like some other places do. You guys truly care about the animals that walk through your doors and it shows in your approach to them with having each individual pet's best interest at heart.
I only got one phone call during my vacation and it was because my dog didn't take his medication, instead he ate the hot dog surrounding it. (He thinks he's sneaky). When this happened, UAH hospital called me up right away to ask for my permission to give him his Medicine in either peanut butter or a pill pocket. They just wanted to make sure he had no allergies. When I picked my dog up he was all tuckered out from his playtimes over the weekend and he was happy. I was worried that he'd feel indifferent towards me for boarding him.
Thank you again, University Animal Hospital for calming my nerves, calming my dogs nerves, and for being the affordable Boarding Facility that you are. If you board with them, they offer a discount for first time boarders and I highly suggest getting your pet the Kennel with the run attached to it. I plan to use these guys again for any Boarding in the future and will feel confident doing so.
