My buddy Drew, who runs the ETC at Carnegie Mellon, suggested we meet for coffee at this local Pittsburgh establishment on Tuesday. My first thought: it felt like Austin.
Well, my first first thought after I traversed the very narrow roads and worried - for just a moment - as I parked my car in front of two women sitting on the ground smoking cigarettes at 830 am. But clearly they had other things to do because despite the sketchy neighborhood, everything was cool.
The coffeeshop is eclectic, definitely a hot seventies kitsch to it. But not gaudy like grandma's fake jewelry. More antique-y. And there were tons of drink and foodie/breakfast selections. And the young woman behind the counter couldn't have been nicer.
(Plus, after being subjected to 2 weeks of English cappuccino just before I arrived in Pittsburgh, it was nice to have coffee made right again.)
If you're looking for something a bit funky, a bit real and complete with personality...this is your place.
