Just a horrible customer service experience at this Canadian Tire location! I went to this store to buy a $600.00 Dyson Vacuum. Wanted to feel the weight of the unit and check out the features in person before I bought it. The "floor" model was on a raised shelf under lock and key (a high theft item I was told). I walked the store for a good 20 minutes looking for a staff member to assist me. As usual, there was literally no staff on the floor (always a skeleton staff at this location - so frustrating!). I criss-crossed this large store at least 4 times looking for an employee. Finally found someone who told me they would send another employee to isle 67 to assist me. i walked to the other end of the store and waited 15 minutes. No one showed up. Walked to the other end of the store to the cashiers again and asked for assistance. Was told again to go back to isle 67 and wait for another employee to assist me. Waited another 10 - 15 minutes in this isle. Crickets. Again - no one showed up. Frustrated, I walked across the expansive store AGAIN to a counter and explained to a staff member that I had paged for assistance twice already and that I had been waiting at least 40 minutes simply trying to buy this vacuum. Despite the fact that I was calm and collected, this employee broke out in a huge grin and she actually started laughing at me. Unbelievable! There is absolutely nothing worse than being upset and then being laughed at/mocked. I said "really?, you are laughing?!" She replied "Well you are OBVIOUSLY frustrated" in a very sarcastic tone. I immediately asked for her name and then headed to the customer service counter at the front of the store to speak to a manager. This manager apologized for his staff's behaviour and assured me he would have a "chat" with the employee that found my dilemma hilarious (a good manager would have fired her on the spot). He assured me someone would meet me in the vacuum isle to assist shortly. Back I go to isle 67. I wait again. Finally, an employee shows up just wreaking of cigarette smoke. She said in a VERY bitchy tone "what vacuum do you want sir?!", clearly annoyed with me before I even spoke a single word. I have no problem with smokers, but for the love of god, wash your hands and chew a breath mint before you go back on the floor to deal with customers. When I asked if I could inspect the vacuum/floor model before purchasing she literally rolled her eyes again and reluctantly paged another employee to unlock the security wire. Another employee eventually shows up and tries every key on his key ring and no key will fit the padlock. 7 minutes later he calls yet another employee who tries all of her keys and none of them fit the lock. The blind leading the blind. Yet ANOTHER employee is called to the isle and she attempts to unlock the padlock - also without success. After close to an hour simply trying to touch and then purchase this vacuum, and after engaging with no less than 7 employees and the store manager I leave the store empty handed - unsuccessful and completely frustrated. Just a BRUTAL customer experience all around. I ended up calling Canadian Tire to register a complaint. Was told someone would call me back the following day likely. I never did hear from anyone. Today I bought the vacuum directly from Dyson Canada. I paid $150 less for the exact same unit and they threw in a $60 tool free of charge. I won't be going back to Crappy Tire anytime soon. No wonder retail is dying. Canadian Tire needs to hire more staff and they need to train them in customer service relations. Spend your money elsewhere. Canadian Tire doesn't deserve your business!
