  • My spa BFFs and I have been coming to The Boulders for 14 years, and until last year, we would rate the entire property and all services at five. However, last year and more so this year, we have been disappointed in several areas. PROS: Service and food at the 2 open restaurants on the property was better than our previous 13 years coming to the Boulders. Bell service was prompt and courteous. Food service at the Spa Pool was also prompt and attentive. The Spa Shop's Helina is a gem, so helpful and sweet. The recent updates were nice, but not high end compared to other hotels I've stayed in in other cities. The beds are comfortable and we slept fine, except for mosquito's. CONS: Housekeeping was horrible. Dirty glasses were left sitting on nightstands; we had only 1 trash bin in Casita 250, although we requested another and it never came. Imagine walking hot & dripping K-Cups from the entry bar area, into the bathroom. The floors (slate) and throw rugs were not cleaned or vacuumed. But the worst of it all is the lack of pest control!!! We didn't keep our doors open because it was so hot that week, but we killed up to 3 spiders a day and found a large, winged insect in our closet. The laminated card that warned of insects was in your connecting Casita #251 but not #250. Casita #251 did have 2 trash bins and even a lighted makeup mirror, which #250 didn't get. We all came home with numerous mosquito bites, which has only happened last year and this year in our 14 year history with The Boulders. Lastly, there was only 7 padded lounges at the spa pool....located next to the non-functioning jacuzzi. They were nasty, and obviously left over from the main pool, but it wasn't a nice experience! The non-padded lounges are terrible for people with back issues, and causes the guests to use several towels to roll up for back support. Since we got a reduced rate of $188, down from $359 per casita/per night, we didn't complain too loudly, but would have if we were paying the higher rate. We are going to check out The Sanctuary Resort in Scottsdale/Pleasant Valley and may end up moving our annual spa trip away from the Boulders, but we hope that won't be necessary. The rating of 2 is directly proportional to the disappointment we had from the resort being so much less than it used to be. Hope Curio's owners listen to feedback!
