  • These guys and gals that have been working here for ever are the best. If your a homeowner, here is where you need to shop for way lower cost paint and supplies than Home Depot or Lowes. Plus those department stores still have carcinogens in their paint. These people believe in green. Here are two of the most important reasons to shop here that I know. -------We have long made it our practice to voluntarily initiate policies that safeguard the health of our customers, employees and the public -- as well as the quality of our shared environment. In the early 1950s, we discontinued our last remaining lead-based paint product more than 25 years before federal regulation banned most uses of such products. In the 1970s, we reformulated all our water-based paints to eliminate the use of biocides containing mercury -- long before the U.S. EPA imposed a limited ban in 1990. In the early 1980s, we replaced ethylene glycol (a toxic solvent) with safer, non-toxic, FDA-approved propylene glycol. -------Ethylene Glycol (EG) is a solvent used in many latex paints and is listed as a hazardous air pollutant and toxic air contaminant under many federal and state regulations. A colorless, odorless liquid, EG and its vapors can be toxic to humans. Exposure may cause irritation to skin, eyes, nose, throat and lungs, as well as trigger allergic reactions. Overexposure to EG could lead to nausea, vomiting, drowsiness and respiratory impairment. And repeated overexposure can permanently damage the liver and kidneys. No EG in Dunn-Edwards Paint.
