I'd like to give it more stars because they do help animals and I have never seen a cleaner shelter in my life. However, I always expect more compassion when I go there and am disappointed. In the past, I have tried to bring them an injured animal and was turned away and they didn't show the concern I had, brought my cat for immunizations and dropped off donations.
When I bring donations, they never seem grateful or happy that I took the time and money to get them items they say they need. They just take them and give me a cold "thank you."
All of my other animals (2 cats and a dog) are on a Banfield Wellness plan so they have their shots taken care of during annual exams. It was too expensive to add my 3rd cat to that, so I have taken her to low cost clinics. At the Humane Society, they just take the animal away and bring them back when they are done. There's no consultation with a vet and you don't get to be there for the treatment. I guess I've just been burned too many times... I worry that my cat is not even getting the treatment I'm paying for because I'm not there to see it. Plus, I can't witness the kind of treatment she is getting- are they being compassionate? Gentle?- and that concerns me.
The Humane Society is a great organization that helps animals. But I wish there was more transparency in their services.
