| - Cafe Hollander immediately struck me as a superior version of the Great Dane: the space is vast, the beer menu is equally daunting, and the menu is fairly middle-of-the-road, designed to please most anyone. By comparison, Hollander's service is better, its menu more interesting, the food a step above Dane's, and the atmosphere more inviting. But beyond that, it still has the feel of a chain restaurant in many ways - a high brow answer to the Cheesecake Factory. The portions are absurdly large, lots of dishes overseasoned, and the general look pretty generic. If you're looking for a decent burger after a stop at Hilldale, definitely stop in. But if you're just visiting Madison, try out a restaurant that actually bears the stamp of the city and the people who live here. This place feels like the Disney theme park version of Wisconsin.
