I was in Vegas for The Killers concert (my fave band!) and because I have family there. As I was chatting with my boss before I left work that Friday, she recommended Holsteins for dinner while I was in Vegas. I looked them up on Yelp and I was sold! Burgers and fries are my absolute fave! Plus those shakes looked totally amazing!
My cousin was generous enough to take me there before the concert. I had never been inside the Cosmopolitan before, even though I've been to Vegas many times. I loved the elegant, chic, girly decor everywhere. And they have a Chelsea tower/ballroom. How cool is that?!
We made our way to Holsteins and it wasn't too busy at all. Just pretty steady for a Monday night. We had made reservations but probably didn't need them. After we sat down I knew I had to have one of those shakes!! Now I know Holsteins is known for their boozy shakes, but I've had a boozy shake elsewhere before and I was not impressed. It was like the alcohol ruined the taste of the actual shake! So I asked the server if I could order a shake sans alcohol and he said yes (it's $3 cheaper---in my opinion it should be like $5 cheaper but whatevs). I knew from the Yelp pictures that I wanted the cookies and cream! The shake came out relatively quickly (I'm used to SteaknShake where it takes 20 minutes to get your shake). I took one sip and LOVED it!! You can tell that it's not just over the top quantity over quality (which is what I was thinking it would be). Nope not at all...this shake had great tasting quality ice cream! It was almost like ice cream with a little frozen custard mixed in. I absolutely loved the flaky Oreo cookies in there. They also give you the leftover shake in addition to the shake in the fancy glass. It was absolutely delicious!
For dinner, I ordered the classic burger and requested no lettuce/tomato/onion. It was good/decent. Nothing really to write home about. There were a lot of pickles on there which was good. I was disappointed because I ordered medium well and it was still pretty red on the inside. Luckily I'm not the kind of person who is picky about meat temperatures. I ordered it with cheddar cheese and was hoping the cheese would be melting on top of the burger. But it almost looked like they threw it on top of the burger for only a few seconds before serving it. I don't like when the edges of the cheese are sticking out and not melted to the burger. (See picture). The fries were totally average. Again, nothing I'd ever rave about.
Overall, burgers and fries alone, this place is a solid three. Very average. But because of the delicious fancy shake, they get bumped up to a 4. I'm glad I went and would definitely go back again but only for a shake.
