| - This is a hot pot slash fondue type restaurant in Summerlin area. I had a really good dinner tonight with a friend. We were welcomed by the chef and seated immediately. My friend has been here a handful of times and the chef remembered him which I thought was cool.
The restaurant was modern, clean, and had fun music with Japanese TV game shows playing. The entire restaurant was bar seating. They had high seating and lower seating that surrounded the staff. Since I'm Asian I already know the deal. You pick a meat, a broth, and extras. The meats come in different sizes based on ounces. If you let the staff know it is your first time then they'll explain the intended way to eat and show you.
I picked their house special cut of meat in the largest "sumo" size (10 ounces) with the suggest broth of sukiyaki. It was beef. They had four broths to choose from and about 8 - 10 meats.
Aside from the rice and veggies that came with the order of meat, I ordered a side of udon noodles. It already came with udon noodles so I had a lot of noodles.
The meat was served with a pasteurized egg which was meant to dip the meat into AFTER cooking it in the meat. The egg did add a creamy taste to the sweet sukiyaki broth. A second egg for $1.50 is recommended if you get a larger portion of meat.
You get a bottle of alkalized water, tongs, and a ladle to help eat. The alkalized water is supposed to re-hydrate the constantly boiling pot of broth in front of you without diluting the flavor.
At first glance it didn't seem like a lot of food, but it was a really good, filling, almost "light" dinner. I ended up taking a container full of food home because of the extra udon I ordered. The sukiyaki broth was flavorful but a bit one-note aka boring. It was mostly sweet and nothing more. With the savory beef and creamy egg it was delicious.
I had one of their fondue for dessert that was delicious. I got the milk chocolate fondue with fruit and pastries. It came with bananas, strawberries, rice crispy treats, cake, and marshmallows. It was the perfect size for two and only $7.99.
They had great hot tea also.
Over all I thought dinner was memorable. I've done hot pot at home, but it was fun in a restaurant. The food quality was good. The meat was fresh as were the vegetables. I thought the staff was great. One of our severs boxed my udon for me. I felt really taken care of. The chef knew exactly how to talk to the diners to make them feel welcome and comfortable.
We spent just under $80 for the two of us. That was for two full sized meat entrees, two hot teas, an extra pasteurized egg, an extra order of meat, and dessert. I thought it was a a good price for the unique dining experience, food quality, and the service. Keep in mind they do have cheaper cuts of meat if it sounds expensive. I imagine the location adds to the cost.
I'll definitely be back for a treat like a date, a special occasion, or a celebration but not on a regular basis. It was good, but not great. I'll try one of their other broths next time also as the sukiyaki was just okay.
My advice to management is to put the music down. Dinner was so awkward because I kept having to repeat myself and ask my friend to repeat themselves. It made me not want to talk.
