  • Went to the Charlotte store early on a Saturday to beat the crowd. My mother and I were some of the few people in the shop, and there were plenty of employees milling around the store. I was really excited, as experiences at other bridal shops recently haven't been as great (they didn't have what I was looking for - a lace gown with lace sleeves.) I was assigned to a themed dressing room and told I had the run of the store, to start picking things out to try on. The employee who was supposed to have been helping me spent more time talking to her coworker about a competing bridal store, and I and my mother were largely ignored. I was never asked what kind of dress I was looking for or offered help in going through the racks until I sought out an employee. Not sure if this is just how they run things, but if it is, it's not helpful. They have hundreds of dresses to sort through and the assistance of an employee would have been beneficial. When I did get help, I expressed that I was having trouble locating dresses in the store in a size I could try on - part of the reason I went to the store was the promise of a "Plus Size Boutique" advertised on their website. This boutique doesn't exist. When I asked for it, an employee lead me around the store aimlessly in search of it, and in the middle of looking, stopped to talk to another customer who was coming in the store, either forgetting she was helping me, or flat out ignoring me. When it did come time to try on dresses, I was given gowns that were nothing like what I described, with the promise that they could construct sleeves to accompany any gown. Frustrated, and disheartened that I wasn't able to effectively try on gowns in a size that fit, I decided to leave the store. A different employee approached me to ask how it went, and I told her we didn't have luck, explaining that it was difficult to pick out a gown that didn't fit. My mother asked if they could order a gown in the style I was searching for in a size I could fit, and we were told that it would cost $100 for a "loaner" gown and that the sample sizes are standard. She told me I would find my gown "out there somewhere", which lead me to believe they weren't interested in our business. A male employee approached us on our way out, and when I reiterated the problem to him, he told me the same thing - my gown is "out there somewhere." Not once were we offered help or a solution beyond this. I will never recommend this store to anyone based on this experience alone. J. Major's Bridal Boutique in Dilworth is a lovely little store that boasts beautiful gowns in a similar price range to NY Bride & Groom. I was greeted kindly at J. Major's, and our consultant went above and beyond for me to help me find the gown I envisioned. NY Bride & Groom lost a $4,000 gown sale due to the rudeness and incompetence of their employees.
