  • The first time I went to Krieg's, I expected their frozen custard to have around the same consistency, texture, and joy found in a normal soft serve cone. This is no McDonald's 50 cent cone, far exceeding even industrial type self-soft-serve machines. The first bite so tantalizing, tongue wrapped in a creamy mixture, consistency the thickness of full fat ice cream slightly softened, I died. Before even the first taste, I marveled at the "small" size for $2.00. The massive, expertly piled soft serve standing as a triumphant symbol to everything Midwestern summers should and do stand for. America! Krieg's is more than worth the trek. Their custard flavor changes weekly and they offer punch cards-- 10 purchases and you get a free cone! In addition to frozen deliciousness, they offer a variety of foods, fried novelties, such as mushrooms, and an unhurried, undemanding environment. The only thing that breaks my heart is that Krieg's is only open until October 31, so HURRY fill up on your frozen treats, and don't forget to bring your punchcard!
