  • After seeing another Yelper's photos of this place, I knew I had to bookmark Serano Bakery and check it out. Funny enough, I happened to be in the area over the weekend so there was no excuse for me not to visit. Walking into the bakery, my mouth was salivating with all these sweet desserts in front of me!! I didn't immediately grab a number because I wanted my time to explore the shop. Apart from their cakes, sweet pastries, baklava, cookies, biscotti, chocolate, and gelato, they also have a "grocery" section where you could buy authentic Greek products. I loved when I saw Greek writing in the frozen vegetables--proved my half semester spent learning that language did not go to waste. After walking through the shop, I finally took a number and was called within 2 minutes--there were only a few people in the shop. The lady was very kind and patient as I pointed to her what I wanted. The baklavas are calculated by weight at $20.00/lb; for six pieces, the totally came up to $6.20, which is honestly very cheap. When it was time to pay, I was asked if I wanted my box to be wrapped and I said "sure"--I mean, why not? The lady wrapped it with ribbons and she took the time to curl the ends--all this at no additional cost. The wrapping definitely elevated the baklavas that I bought. Even my mom was impressed with the wrapping that she took a picture of it before she opened it, haha! Taste wise... the baklavas are made with great texture but I felt the sugar syrup could have been flavoured with either rosewater or orange blossom. I don't know, maybe I am used to Middle Eastern baklava and Greek baklavas are slightly different?! This was the only reason that made me decide to give this place 4 starts. Would I return?! Definitely!! Apart from baklavas, there are so many different desserts that I still want to try!!!!
