| - Bloom is a true community eatery. Not only are many of the ingredients sourced from the surrounding areas, but they're also super involved with their customers from the moment you walk in. The owner walks around to make sure everyone's happy with their meals, and I really feel like she cares about our general wellbeing. You won't find that very often.
Beyond that, the food here is SO. EFFING. GOOD.
Known for their gluten-free baking prowess, they're also killing it with drinks and savory options for lunch. Take the Bloody Mary, for example: It's not a mix - they made it from scratch! Just be sure to use the stirrer - sometimes the horseradish (fresh and sinus-clearing!!) rises to the top while they're making it (I don't think they use a shaker - but it'd sure be cool if they did!). Better yet, grab a spoon.
For lunch, I suggest the Cubano. Shredded pork and cheese and veggies are sandwiched between two perfectly flaky, buttery pastry crusts, baked golden and soft. This thing is a TREAT. My boyfriend complained that there wasn't enough sandwich, but this was AFTER he insisted we split one, because he wasn't /that/ hungry. So... that's on him. lol
The bathrooms are charming, clean one-holers, with adorable gender-neutral signage to match.
Parking's kind of annoying, but that's Monroe for you. I like to skip the main drag and paid lots altogether and snag one a block or two away in the residential neighborhood (then I pop into Trader Joe's on the way back, inspired to make my own amazing food from scratch).
You can tell the owner and staff of Bloom care a LOT about the neighborhood, their customers, and the business. This lovely, intimate spot is always warm and inviting. Check it out! And let me know if you feel the same way I do.
