| - I have been known to open my heart to the enemy at times. Thus, I allow Tyler B, a Wolverine into my heart. He was kind enough to pay me a visit for V-day weekend and suggested we spend our Sunday afternoon doing some day drinking, all while watching his beloved Michigan Wolverines. Since I am such a wonderful host, I decided to oblige and pulled up Yelp to find a place that we could watch The Big Ten Network at a location we could reach via light rail. I called a handful of places, and The Tavern seemed most promising. The guy I spoke with was nice enough to offer to call me back once his programming list printed, but we just headed up there. They clearly had the Big Ten Network so I was confused why they did not know this information when I called. If you're paying for it, you should know you have it, right?
It smelled like stinky stale beer and we got our ID's checked by a bouncer at noon on a Sunday. I did not find the stale beer smell odd, although the bouncer, midday was strange to me. The front patio seemed inviting, although we had a game to watch so we had to sit inside.
The Tostada Chicken Salad that I had was pretty delicious- the greens were fresh- often bars have limp and lame vegetables so I was pretty impressed with my meal. The beers came at the right pace, and there was no stinginess as far as my citrus+liquor was concerned.
Our bartender was attentive and nice enough. They were doing some sort of major cleanse (thank goodness- they needed to get rid of that stinky stale smell) and we got to witness and experience the personalities of some of the other staff. They all seemed inappropriate, funny and pissed that they were cleaning- my kind of people.
Simply put, the music was irritating. When we arrived, it was tuned to a hip-hop station. As time passed, it changed to complete randomness. One second we'd hear Billy Joel and the next it would be Destiny's Child. I wish they would choose a station and stick with it as it is cause for quite a bit of confusion when the genre keeps changing.
They have the Big Ten Network, the service is pretty good and they can make a mean salad- I'd return if the need arose.
