  • I travel a lot and my experiences at Calgary International Airport have been better than average. I travel Houston to Kelowna every once in a while and we often transfer in Calgary. The security lines move pretty quickly and the agents are friendly. The fact that I can clear US immigration and customs before I get on the plane and skip the frustration at my destination makes things so much easier! Landing in Calgary, we made our way to bag claim. We were pleased to see the very large signs that directed us to the customs area upstairs to collect our items since they are going to the USA. We went upstairs and quickly checked in for our Houston bound flight. The rule is that you cannot enter immigration and customs until you are within the 2 hour window before you flight, but they let us in because they weren't backed up. There are several tables with pens and customs forms outside the area so you can get your form ready. Going in, our bag was already there on the carousel. Next you get in line for immigration. You stand in a line in a hall with huge photos of the USA, billboard sized photos. The photos were quite lovely and diverse. The lines move quickly and then we have passed immigration, customs, and have rechecked our bag. Easy. There are areas inside the gate area for food and drinks. There is ample seating and places to plug your phone in to charge. I loved the large comfy arm chairs that lined the halls. There is even a Tim Hortons doughnut shop inside the gate area. The other thing (besides clearing US immigration) that makes this place better than the typical airport is the baggage carousel. Each baggage carousel had a theme. They are so cute. There are huge hippos, penguins, etc... They aren't all animals. It looks like each one is showcasing something special about Calgary. What a great idea! Oh yeah... and free WiFi. ALL international airports should have this.
