| - Stopped in multiple times during my short stay. I could not find the small stand at first; if you're heading there from the nearby metro enter the market near fish vendor, go straight, and turn left at the arabic pastry stand. Don't enter near the fish market and then wander all the way through the winding interior to the opposite end before finding a map and realizing you've gone completely the wrong way. Like me.
My first trip didn't meet expectations. I was looking forward to "Les Meilleures Beignes au Monde" but the apricot donut did not really reach that high. The apricot filling had a muted flavor, the outside was the tiniest bit soggy, and the interior wasn't as fluffy and chewy as it should have been.
Despite this set back, I knew I had to return to try the other flavors. Creme and Prune (yes, prune!) did not disappoint. On my second and third visits the donuts seemed much fresher. The exteriors a slight crispiness, the insides were fluffy and soft with just the right amount of bite, and the fillings were top notch. Creme was smooth and sweet without being cloying. Prune was tart and delicious. If you're apprehensive about the prune flavor, don't be; it reminded me of a raisin, except better.
Definitely worth a stop if you're at the market, and almost worth the trip on its own.
