  • This was my first time back to Blue Hound in about two years. Everything about our visit (a business dinner with a job candidate) was terrific, particularly the service--flawless. I was a tad disappointed with a couple of dishes, though. First, I was really sad to see that the biscuits with bacon jam were not on the starters menu any more. *sob* Second, we ordered the fried green tomatoes because our job candidate had never eaten them before. I was hesitant, if only because I grew up in the South and am pretty picky about that dish. These were just ok, and honestly, for $16, they were not up to snuff. The tomato slices were tiny--about the size of a silver dollar--and would have been pretty forgettable if not for the lump crab and remoulade accompanying them. The shishito peppers, however, were outstanding and at $9, a fair price. We also had the bone marrow starter (also $16), which is utterly delicious but not really the right size for three people to share. Two people, sure, and I'll order them again. For our mains, we had two orders of the trout and the flat-iron steak. All were cooked perfectly and plated very nicely. My steak was medium-rare, as requested, and the cherries in the glaze accompanying it really made the dish (one of my dinner partners kept asking me for another)! We finished by sharing a slice of the pineapple upside down cake. I loved it. Moist, not too sweet, light rather than dense. The sorbet served with it, however, really couldn't hold its own. Its flavor wasn't distinctive enough and something with a more significant mouth-feel would be a better foil for the cake. The total for our dinner, not including alcohol or tip, was $145. That's steep for three people, but if you're looking for a place to go for a special occasion, Blue Hound Kitchen should be an option.
