Mediocre at best when it comes to customer service! I initially entered into this establishment to rent a storage space for some couches my wife was getting from Craigslist. After explaining that to the employee at the counter and also that I saw that a 10x5x8 space was available online for a good price, plus free rent for the first month.
I also explained that I would be back later in the day to rent a truck to pick up the couches. The employee then explained to me that I would not be able to access my storage unit after business hours, and that if I wanted to have access after 7pm I would need to pay 10 dollars a month more to have 24 hour access. I told him that would be great seeing that I wasn't picking up the couches until 7:15.
After completing the transaction for the space he continued to show me which truck would be most useful for what I planned on moving. However, it seemed impossible for him to show me my rental space. As if it were a burden to walk all the way back their to take off his lock so that I can put mine on. I then told him I would be back at 6:45 to pick up the truck and that we can switch the locks then.
I came back and he showed me how to get into the building using a card key. And then walked to the very back of a narrow hallway to find an even narrower door. (Not exactly what I had in mind but at the time it didn't seem worth changing and placing another awful burden on this gentlemen).
Upon returning to unload the truck into my new (7:40pm) unit I swiped my card key only to find out that the guy did not grant me 24 hour access and to call the site manager. After calling the number I found on a sign posted facing the inside of the building (luckily I could see through it and read things backwards), I was sent straight to a voice mail. With no other options in front of me I drove the truck back to my house at 59ยข per mile.
Upon returning the next morning we were directed to wait for the manager to arrive to resolve our complaint. We waited 15 minutes, where I stumbled upon part of the sales floor that easily could have shown me the size of my space and the type of door that was on it. After 15 minutes the manager still was not there we ended up driving around back and unloading our truck rather than waiting to see if we could get a more accessible unit.
We parked the empty truck next to the building. Walked into the building to speak to the manager who probably already knew the problem because his employee had told him, he shot me a look that made me feel that I am a waist of time and that dealing with my complaint is a burden. I told the manager the story and his reply was "I am sorry what would you like me to do about it?" In the most unapologetic and insincere possible tone.
I told him "at the least you can make sure I'm not charged for renting this truck for two days and that I am reimbursed for the extra miles back and forth from my house."
He agreed to that. Plus one more apology that really wasn't anything more than putting the blame on his employee.
Now there is nothing wrong with the final agreement I'm not going to pay anything more than I would have if everything went smoothly. On the other hand everything didn't go smoothly and it wasn't made right. I would have hoped that they would have done something more than wave $3 dollars worth of mileage. In my opinion that is very poor customer service.
