  • I stayed at the Delta Chelsea by choice of location. I had a party to attend nearby and I knew it would be a late one (plus booze) so I booked a regular Delta Room with one King Bed (basic category). The hotel is huge and has the look of an older apartment building, but I really just needed a place to crash. Lobby/Check In: I checked in on Saturday, June 25th at around 4pm and boy, the lobby was a ZOO! Different entrances, lines snaking here and there...I was just confused. Me being short didn't help the situation either. I finally found the check-in line and the counter was manned by 5 or 6 people at a time. Check-in was a breeze and very friendly with standard questions: any parking, assistance with luggage if any, quantity of keys required finished off with an 'enjoy your stay!' Because this hotel is so big, there are different elevators for different areas/rooms and coded by colour. I believe mine was Green/Blue and finding your elevator is like finding your connecting route in a European metro station - follow the signs to here and there. To my dismay, there were only two elevators up to my room and the line to that was already so long... Older vs. Newer Rooms: From reading previous reviews and from having received an explanation email from a Manager at this hotel, I now know there are the renovated rooms/floors and the older rooms. Guess which room I got... Walking in, I was immediately hit by that old-mildew-shower-curtain smell. The room was tiny and 6 steps inward led me to the most unsafe balcony ever: bare and cracked concrete with a railing that was waist high and which overlooked one of the most depressing 'courtyard views' ever. (Grey, barren and concrete - scene from Oliver during Industrial England anyone?) Furniture is sparse but adequate befitting basic needs. Coffee machine with glass cups and mugs. Bathroom was old and dim, but sufficiently clean. Noise-Level: Signature banging of doors when people leave/enter their rooms but nothing major. Conclusion: I think this will be my first and last time staying at this hotel. Granted, if I had stayed in the newer renovated rooms, perhaps my review would have been different. As of June 25th, 2011 I paid $179 not including taxes and additional charges - the value was just not there for me. I did not feel comfortable staying in my room at all. From reading other reviews, it appears that you can get great discounts for rooms at this Delta from a Priceline or other similar website and if that is the case, go for it. Paying full price, despite the location (downtown) and its proximity to a metro station (College), is just not worth it in my opinion. Hotel Rewards Program: This reward program is only for Delta hotels so it is unlike a Starwood (W, Sheraton, Westin, etc...) or Intercontinental that has a portfolio of different hotel brands. This means that if you are loyal to the Delta brand, then of course, this rewards program would only benefit you. I am not a part of this program, however, for further information on it, the link is below: http://www.deltahotels.com/en/privilege
