| - This year was the 4th annual Italfest and there was something for everyone.
I attended the festival in the early afternoon between 2-4. The opening ceremonies had just finished and there was this little girl on stage and absolutely killing the crowd with cover performances of Italian and North American pop songs. The bocce ball tournament was in full swing and the final rounds had begun. The square was packed.
Food vendors were serving up some delicious eats, including Speducci, Palma Pasta, Reko, Faema, Pizza Nova, Sicilian Ice Cream company, The lamb skewers at Speducci were melt-in-your-mouth amazing, Palma Pasta's meat lasagna was homey and comforting. Pizzelle crackers at Reko made for a lightweight snack. The espresso from Faema provided just enough energy for the rest of the afternoon. Hawaiian pizza at Pizza Nova made for a great main course. And lastly, we had some decadent gelato from the Sicilian Ice Cream company.
Best of all? All of these were local Canadian companies - so we got to support our own. Thanks to Yelp for the opportunity to experience and learn a lot more about Italian culture and the GTA, and of course, for the opportunity to sample so much great food!
