  • Great beer, great atmosphere, great prices, absolutely no frills. Katie knows beer. She runs the joint almost single-handedly, and stocks her taps and fridge brilliantly. Local stuff, US microbrews, Quebecois superbeers, and solid Europeans. She's also the DJ, and has a lot of punk packed into her miniature frame. The atmosphere is deliberately divey, but really comfortable. I've had more excellent conversations with other random patrons here than anywhere else. Why is that? Something about the place just says you're among friends. No one's here to impress, or to spend $45 on a cocktail. Laid back, drinking great beer. If you don't want beer, you are stone cold out of luck. Katie's got a few bottles of spirits, "for drunken cougars and college kids," but it would be sacrilege to order them; I've never seen someone try. No food either, beyond the minimum effort needed to preserve the liquor license. T&M needs to be on your crawl, but it will not be your whole night. As she hits her stride, I'd love to see her offer some bar snacks and maybe put in a couple more taps, but this is already a favourite in Kensington and I come back regularly. You should, too. Pro-tip: Mexican Salsas, up the street, will sell you tacos and Katie will let you eat them in her bar. Katie's beer with Salsas tacos is a hell of a strong start to a night in the market.
