We just got back from a gorgeous week at the Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado with Air Canada Vacations. I've booked many all inclusives before but never with AC. You always hear nightmares on Yelp when it comes to travel, but I feel it's important to mention when things are good. Especially when you always hear complaints about Air Canada.
The flight was on time, and was as comfortable as could be expected. Our baggage was ready immediately on both ends which was especially nice on the way home when all you want to do is get your stuff and sleep/nap.
More than anything, I was impressed by our Tour rep, Joel. He was a really genuine guy who met us when we got off the plane and gave us the lay of the land while the bus was taking us to Samana. Normally, they tour reps hop on the bus and tell you that you have to come to some meeting the next day at 9 am to hear about all the important stuff they need to tell you (they want to sell you their tours and direct you to all the places they get kick backs from) No one needs this on vacation. Your first morning you want to eat and go to the beach. Then you never see the rep again, he's never at his desk or waits for 10 minutes a day and then takes off.
Joel was very different. There were people going to 2 different resorts on the bus and he gave us a really concise run down of what to expect at our respective hotels. He told us what his hours were at the resort and when we could come and see him to book tours or if we had any questions. We saw him in the lobby each day and in addition to helping us book our tour, he had his laptop out with the radar to let people know that the rain was clearing up.
He speaks something like 6 or 7 languages and was very friendly and approachable. You got the feeling that he would take care of anything you needed. Vacation Suppliers need more reps like Joel. He was a bright light and a big help.
The only reason I took off a star was because of the lack of seat back entertainment. They give you I pads on rouge, but I think you have to pay for them. Also, no snackies or drinks. Sunwing always has sparkling wine and something to nibble on.
Way to go ACV. It's nice to give kudos to a company that takes so much flack, but I have to say that it was Joel who impressed us the most and I'll be writing a letter to Air Canada Vacations about him.
Well Done!!
