There's a certain kind of charm that you get with a downtown storefront versus a strip mall one.
Is it the vertical layout instead of the single-floor horizontal space, or the series of escalators that accompany such a layout?
The result is that you step into a seemingly small, narrow space that gives way to several large floors just packed with surprising gems, many items at prices comparable to thrift stores.
It's like the Narnia of markdown stores.
You walk in to a mini floor that's stocked with impulse-buy items like chocolate truffles and seasonal decor, and from there it's just an escalator ride to a sprawling oasis of crazy discounted goodness.
It's hard to predict what you'll find on each visit. Nothing stays constant here; if you don't pick up that tiger print jacket and maple bacon seasoning grinder right now, it probably won't still be around on your next excursion downtown.
I love that about it. I've found some of the most unexpected, wonderful things here. It's always worth stopping in.
