Here's the deal. I may be a creature of habit, but this place is my Saturday morning (1 PM counts as morning if you're at brunch) for a reason, other than it being within walking distance of home. It fits my priority for bunch better than any other place: I have to have a fruity bubbly with my sugar bread and not wait forever for it.
I don't like the fuss of the nearby brunch spots; even their sister location in Point Breeze is tiny with a typical brunch wait (they also only serve brunch on Sundays). I have never waited for a table for the +1 and I on a Saturday morning. Never. That's insane in itself. Breakfast without a wait seemed like a dream only served on a plastic dish at Eat N Park. Nah, right here in Highland Park.
So I'm a loser and order the Liege waffles with "seasonal fruit topping" (blueberry ginger is my fav), gratin potatoes square, and a St. Germaine cocktail every single week. It's too good not to. The little waffles with the pearl sugar!? Ugh. The 1+ always gets the special, which has been anything from a Greek omelet to an Irish breakfast Ruben. I don't ask nor judge. He hasn't complained yet.
They also serve a really great lunch. Get the fries.
If you want brunch and do not want to wait "about 45 minutes?", this is the place to go. Even if they had a ridiculous wait like everywhere else I would probably still show up here.. Those tiny waffles (and full bar!!!) are that good.
