  • Saw this Wednesday. My first cirque du soleil show, and it was AWESOME! Also my first time at Radio City Music Hall. Got great $60 tickets from stubhub, or at least what i thought were great tickets until i was actually there and realized that I misunderstood. More on that later. The show was fantastic, SO many cool stunts. Flawless, not a single mistake. I kept saying wow through the whole show. My favorite scenes were (SPOILER ALERT) the people in the hoops (WOW!) and the guy in all white that did a mega flexible and strong solo (whoa!). Oh, and the lady that drew images in the sand, (wowsers!) And how could I forget the juggling lady in the beginning (unbelievable!) Theres more that i have left out, all in all, Definitely very must see stuff! My least favorite were maybe the tight rope, because i was more interested in checking out the snake ladies behind them, and the guys with the flags, I was on my phone through that whole scene. Also I felt the clowns, though funny and lovable, gave me a bit of anxiety because they had long drawn out scenes and i kept thinking they were killing time in preparation for something grand in the back but that never really happened. So I left feeling like they should have cut down on the clown acts and slipped in maybe 2 more cool scenes. (After seeing a recent commercial and reviewing with friends, its seems that there may have indeed been a couple of scenes missing, one of them being an umbrella scene, so this legitimizes my sentiments). As for the music, i thought it was great, lots of good drums. I liked that i was able to see the live instrumentation right on the stage since most orchestras are usually hidden underneath in the front of the stage. I also enjoyed the lighting/shadow effects they used on certain scenes, that reached out well past the stage. I see other yelpers complained about them speaking in another language and i really wasnt bothered by that. If there were no lyrics at all i feel it would not have changed or taken away from the show, so hearing it in a complete different language (what is that language by the way, Romanian?) was not a problem in my book. It was kind of like the Opera, most people go and dont understand what the hell theyre saying, but they like to hear the emotion in the voice and can follow the story through that along with visuals. You dont see a Cirque show like this to follow the plot. Just come and enjoy the stunts and visuals! Finally, I see others complain about it being "only" 90 minutes. Maybe I am old school, but I personally dont like that every movie or show has to consume 3 hours of my life now a days. I get restless and antsy and my butt starts to go numb, so I was very pleased with the timing of this. I did not find it too short at all. As for tickets and seating, we were in the center aisle of the right orchestra section row F 314 and 313, and I thought that meant 6 rows from the stage, but i soon found out the rows closest to the stage have double letters, so my F was for the section right behind that. It sucked because had i known, i could have gotten better tickets. I would definitely say we were too far back for me to enjoy what i mostly enjoy when going to productions, which is the costume, makeup and connecting with their facial expressions. I would definitely advise that the best seats are in the Orchestra double letter section. You could even do the orchestra on the furthest sides as long as you get an aisle seat. Anything behind the double letter Orchestra is too far back. ESPECIally the mezzanine. I dont know how so many people signed up for that. Radio citys seating stretches out much more far back than most theaters I have been to and i found the mezzanine to be waaay far back, since where I was, my eyes were already struggling and the mezzanine was a good 15 rows further behind me. Dont do mezzanine or anything outside the double letter orchestra unless you get a GREAT price on tickets and you dont care much for costume make up and details like I do. I still enjoyed the show over all and was amazed by their skills, but my experience would have definitely been enhanced and much more enjoyable as planned, by being at least 10 rows closer. Overall, New Yorkers should definitely go see this before the summer is over, dont miss it!
