| - Let's talk about Eliza AND her oven. My. Lands.
My fiance and I moved to Pittsburgh pretty suddenly and changed all of our wedding plans to take place here. Being entirely unfamiliar with what the city had to offer, I googled Pittsburgh bakeries and contacted the one that looked the most up our alley. We chose correctly!
1. Eliza. What a woman. Eliza moved here with talent and passion, found reason along the way, and attacked her dream full force when she opened the oven. She's not afraid to play with flavor and she's a stickler for style. Eliza took the time to get to know me and Roger. She played with flavors to suit our tastes. She matched some cake design details to the gold lace on my dress!!! We grew very fond of this dear lady and she did us the favor of attending our reception. Believe me...once you taste her cakes and book her for your wedding, you'll want the guests to meet her too! Speaking of taste...
2. The cake(s). What a delight. Rog and I chose a few flavors from her menu to try at our first tasting (which miss Eliza offered at no charge). We could NOT choose.....so we narrowed it down a bit and went back in a couple of weeks to try again. Eliza added whiskey dulce filling to her chocolate stout cake for us and it was a winner. Bottom layer. Ultimately, for the top two layers, we chose the vanilla lime gin cake with gin blueberry filling. OH EM GEE. This cake FLEW off the bar. People were begging for it. I'm pretty sure Eliza got a couple of cake orders from wedding attendees!
3. The Service. What simplicity. Eliza worked with the coordinator of my reception venue and also my wedding planner to ensure timely delivery and storage to protect the integrity of the cake. (During the reception, I saw her keeping a close eye on her beautiful project, making sure that nothing was failing.) In addition to her amazing cake duties, Eliza helped me out when I hit a snag the week before my wedding. I lost my florist six days prior to getting married and I didn't know where to turn. When I told Eliza, she immediately searched her contacts for fellow vendors and found someone for me within an hour - and the flowers ended up being PERFECT and affordable!
Overall, we had an absolutely glorious experience using Eliza's Oven for our wedding cake. Eliza typically deals in cupcakes, but built a traditional three layer wedding cake for us at my Grandmother's request. We cannot thank her enough for all of her help. Can't wait to get back to the oven for a cupcake and some handpies!
