Looking for a new experience for my son I stumbled upon Black Mountain BMX's website. When I called for information I actually spoke to the owner/operator Debbie who was friendly, informative and obviously passionate about her facility. As always I have horrible timing and I called during the 2 weeks of the year they were closed. However, we did get the chance to go last night for the first time. It was awesome! We got a ton of information from a very kind woman named Susan in the office and she even found an older boy named Josh to help my son get up the hill and into the starting gate. I couldn't believe that my 7 year old that had never been on a bike outside of a parking lot or neighborhood just went for it! (Nerve racking) Having no experience whatsoever my son faltered a few times over the "rollers" and "berm" (words I picked up from the manual provided) and Josh stayed with him the whole time...and a few others also lent a hand. It was nice to see other kids/preteens that were helpful, polite and generally being role models. The facility itself is well maintained and clean (for a ace that is mostly dirt lol). There is also a small snack stand. I had to drag my son away from the facility he was having such a great time and it was the first thing he was talking about this morning. The only tip I can give is try the beginner clinic before attending a practice session.
