  • The Hotel: I often notice that chain hotels rarely get a break on Yelp. To me, large chain hotels are like the airlines. Don't expect too much from them. On the first part of our Arizona adventure, we decided to start at the top and stay at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort. Mainly because of the waterpark that was on the premises. We arrived Thursday evening around 6:30 after a 5 1/2 hour drive. Check-in took all of 5 minute, if that. We stayed in room 2454 which was a spacious suite. I liked it because of the separate living room that I could close off from the bedroom. I get up early so watching tv in the morning can be a problem when staying at a hotel. Our room had a fridge, coffee pot, and a comfy couch. The bathroom was nice in that the toilet and bathtub were separate from vanity. The Waterpark: The waterpark at the Squaw Peak Resort has 2 pools, a waterslide, and a lazy river. They also have a bar and you can order food poolside. My only criticism is that I think the main pool needs some major work. I noticed a lot of the plaster was missing. It didn't take away from the experience, but the deterioration of the pool itself was noticeable. The Restaurant - Rico's American Grill: We had breakfast at the restaurant on premises. Rico's American Grill actually surprised me. I've come to not expect amazing thing from hotel food, but I was pretty impressed. For my breakfast, I had the Huevos Rancheros. It was surprisingly flavorful. My wife had the eggs Benedict and my daughter had the Continental Breakfast buffet. Rico's also has a hot breakfast buffet. The prices were pretty reasonable too. The staff: No issues with the staff. Everyone we came across was friendly and provided and very positive experience. Overall, I recommend this hotel if you're in the Phoenix area.
