| - I selected this hotel based on the glowing reviews, but now I'm wondering, did I really stay in the same place? When I checked in Friday evening, I first noticed there were were no ramps in the curb to make it easier to wheel your luggage up, and the rear doors to the parking lot weren't automatic. If it hadn't been raining, I probably wouldn't have minded fumbling with luggage and doors and umbrellas. I've come to expect those automatic, sliding glass doors, and when a hotel chain is too frugal to install them, I really miss them.
But then there was the ice machine on the third floor with the "out of order" sign taped to it. It looked like it had been out of order a long, long time. When I got to the room, I thought a circuit breaker had tripped because we didn't have lights in the bathroom or entry way. I just wasn't patient enough, I found out. This hotel uses low-wattage CFL bulbs that took a long, long time to respond and light up... not a good choice for entry lighting.
The next morning, the hot water ran out mid-shower, and when we went down to breakfast, the juice machine had an "out of order" sign on it, too. The biggest turn-off, though, was that there were no tongs or serving utensils put out for use with the pastries, or hard boiled eggs, or bread, so guests just had to reach in an touch everything (which they did). That's when I decided to eat breakfast somewhere else.
When I checked out, the clerk didn't even ask me how I enjoyed my stay. It was just as well, under the circumstances.
