We have been in this area several times & never were able to make time for the tour. Hubby really wanted to go on this tour. I checked the website before we made the drive to see if there was anything I should know. We decided we'd do the $30 long tour. We took my two nieces, sister-in-law, brother & ourselves. Parking was a nominal fee. We arrived at it was a warm 119* so we grabbed some waters & ice cream at the snack bar and headed over to the visitors center. When we entered to the visitors center we had to go through the security screen...no biggie. Except that hubby has a defibrillator and needs a pat down.
The guard then said- you know he cannot go on the tour...OMG really...wish that info had been on the website. I should have remembered that generators use magnets..but I was on vacation and did not give it a thought. The website did go over that the tour $30 tours were not accesible to wheelchairs, & crutches because of the steps, etc. Why didn't it mention this? And why did it not mention either restriction for the $11 tour?
New plan- I paid for 5 short tour tickets at $11.00 each and then hubby bought the $8 museum only ticket (I felt bad...he wanted to do the tour). We got in line for the movie and we were stopped again- seems hubby's ticket doesn't include the 10 minute move on the dam...really? He told the guard- I'll pay for it but I cannot go on the tour...off hubby went to pay- the other guard said...no we know you have a defibrillator you cannot pay more. Hubby said I won't go on the tour- I'd like to see the short movie. "NO!" He came back over to tell us what had happened. The other guard (who shall remain nameless to protect his identity) said...go in the movie, but come out the other door & don't go on the tour. Thank you Mr. Guard we all really appreciated that kind act!!! After the movie 5 of us headed for the elvators & hubby was off to the museum.
The tour was informative. The dam impressive...amazing what can be done when man wants it done!!! Video & photos are ok on the tour, so my niece video taped everything for my husband so he could see too. The tour was interesting & I'd like to go on the $30 tour, but I wish the website had reminded us of the obvious-that no pacemakers or defibrillators can go on the either dam or power plant tour...only the museum tour.
Thanks to the guard who allowed my husband to see the show...it really meant a lot to us!!
All in all a good day...small kind acts often make the less than perfect situation better.
