A group of us attended YOLO in markham for a birthday celebration. We called to make rsvp for dinner and the menu has about 10 to 12 appetizers and 3 platters that has very little selection. All came with the similar item but with one change. That is not a dinner menu. No sandwiches or steaks or anything you need a "chef" to cook.
Bruschetta cost $8 for 4 little pieces with unripe tomatoes. The pieces of bread weren't bigger then lining up 3 loonies in a row.
The spring rolls were $10 and were 5 rolls cut in half.
This food was totally over priced and the only thing you are paying for is their rent.
The table tops are chipping and have pieces falling off making the edges rough and sharp that scratch your arms.
We asked for our bill and there is a 17% gratuity on it which is the highest I have ever seen and no one informs you of this. Then when we asked for separate cheques we were told no. Then you pay the server and she grabs the money and disappears. The servers didnt clean any used glassware. We ask another server if we could get drinks and are told we should go to the bar. They don't do cash and carry. This being after we have spent $300.00
I can't say how disappointed I am in attending this establishment . I have worked in the industry for 20 years and totally do not understand how people still come here.
The only reason i give 2 stars is because the washrooms were clean and the dj did a great job with a range of different genres of music.
But they lose stars because of the staffs lack of ability to accommodate the requests of their guests, the lack of food selection and we had our side plates, cutlery and use glassware sit on the table until we left at the end of the night. 30 glasses and empty wine and beer bottles. A big no no. You never want your guests being reminded how much they have been drinking and neglected.
I think this place should change their name from YOLO -You only live once to YOGO - you'll only go once
