| - As I was a long-time, very happy client at the Prescott Valley location, when I moved here, I looked up Planet Beach Tempe. The Prescott location had bulbs changed regularly and the most current beds, and offered chocolates on the pillows if you had the best tanning package. It's a small thing, but it made me feel very appreciated. The staff was super-friendly and the place sparkled. I don't want to sound like a Negative Nancy, but the Tempe location has left a lot to be desired.
The beds are old; some are even cracked. One, you cannot pull down onto yourself without having your fingers in a huge crack that is coated with tanning lotion from other users. The bulbs don't seem to be very strong. Once, I hadn't gone for about three weeks and went and NOTHING. Usually, I'd get a little red on my face, but nothing. I've never gotten a good tan here.
The other part was the memberships. The package I have stipulates that if I cancel before six months, I have to pay a ridiculous fee. Right now, I'm still signed up but haven't been in months and barely went. When I was negotiating my membership, I went through the same situation as another poster, where one person told me one price and another told me another. I understand these girls work on commission, but I hate having the prices written down. It seems very sneaky. Unfortunately, the Prescott Planet Beach had wowed me so much that I didn't wait a few times to sign a contract. I guess I learned my lesson.
At Darque Tan, all the prices are listed on the wall and the girls very easily explain everything. At Planet Beach, the girls were not very nice and the membership prices kept changing when we were negotiating a deal. I even talked membership on the phone to one girl and told another girl when I entered that this other girl had helped me. Who credited herself with the sale? The second girl. If that's what the associates do to each other, it's no wonder the business is such a hot mess.
Onward to better places! I have one month left, but haven't set foot in the place for ages. It's just not worth it. If you want to keep loyal clients, the prices need to be clear, the beds need to be top-notch, and the clients need to feel appreciated. It's not a magic formula, just offering goods for a reasonable price without any tricky contracts to trap you.
