Mez is trying way too hard. The lighting isn't romantic, it's dark. You can't see anything. The music is ridiculously loud. I know they are trying to do a lounge-thing downstairs, but it ruined the restaurant. You can't hear anything. Having eliminated two of your five senses you'd think they would try to capitalize on the remaining three. Seeing as they are a restaurant, I held out hope that they would at least know how to treat my sense of taste. But alas, the food was downright mediocre. They had a special snapper dish, and it was entirely unremarkable. I couldn't even identify the mashed up peppery "side" that was wedged under my piece of overcooked fish.
Bah. I could write more, but I won't bother. Charlotte can do much better at $60+ per person. Blue, Aquavina, Zink, Sonoma, and Aria are all within two blocks.
